Our kids grow up so fast

I can’t believe that my daughter Aria turned ONE just a little over a month ago. Seriously where did the time go? If you have children I know you know what I’m talking about.

Our kids grow up so fast that sometimes you (I) feel like you are missing out on doing things with them. Simple things like just going to the park or going for a drive in the country to see the cows grazing in the paddocks become big hurdles all because we say to ourselves that we are too busy.

This really hit home for me a few months ago with my family.

We had always planned to have another photo session with Aria when she was 6 months old.

By the way, this is another great age to get baby photos done. Your child will have a stronger neck and will be sitting up now. The range of poses we can do increases. It is also a great time to get older siblings involved because they can now hold your little bub with more confidence.

Anyway…the plan was to do just that…a family photo shoot with Aria when she was 6 months old.

However around that time I was flat out with photo shoots and other stuff going on. I remember saying to myself and telling Xuan not to worry we will get it done…soon. After all, I was a photographer, my camera was ready to go, I had a studio…all I had to do was organise a time, walk into the studio and take the photos.

A Valuable Lesson

Well, the weeks went by and nothing was organised. Finally, after being yelled at countless times I got my act together and in a blink of an eye, it was done.  We had our family photos…quick and painless.

Aria’s 6 month baby photography session turned out to be almost a 7 month one.

Can you believe it, I was delaying my own daughter’s photos because I was “too busy”.

Photos that I am looking at right now hanging on our walls at home, that mean so much to me and will mean so much more years from now.

Photos that I would never have owned if I didn’t take the time to just get it done!!

Please Don’t Use The I’m Too Busy Excuse Anymore

Guess what, telling yourself that “we will get family portraits one day”, is like saying I’m going to start exercising on Monday. One day never comes around and before you know it your kids have all grown up and you have missed out on important phases of their lives to record memories.

Now that I have had a firsthand appreciation of the difficulties with organising my own photography session I can fully understand what issues are facing you and your family. Do any of these seem familiar to you?

• Like me, you are too busy. You really need to work through this and just get it done.

At the end of the day, what would you rather miss out on – images of your children at this precious age that you may never get another chance to have or a Saturday morning driving the kids around to their sports meets?

• It all seems too stressful working out what everyone should wear and then trying to coordinate all that with organising your family within their schedules.

We have several phone chats with you before any photos are taken. We tell you what to wear and answer all your questions. We can be flexible with the timing of your photography session and work around your family’s schedule.

• If you have a baby you also have to deal with sleep and feed times.

Oh, trust me I know how cranky they get if their routines are altered. But once again we can schedule a time that best suits your baby. We also have a private area for you to breastfeed if that is a concern for you.

So what are you waiting for? There really is no excuse for delaying having your family portraits done.

I am so thankful I had ours done. Seeing what they look like now it would have been one huge regret of mine if I had missed out.

After all, like I said at the start, they grow up SO FAST.
