I have previously written about my son Jesse, who hates having his photo taken. You can read more about it here, Does Your Child Hate Being Photographed?, and what measures we are going through to resolve this camera phobia issue. So you can imagine my delight when he agreed to do a photo shoot for me a few weeks ago as a gift for Father’s Day present.
A Very Special Fathers Day Present
I decided that I wanted to do an “All About Me” session. These sessions are designed to capture a child’s growing interests and talents. They combine motion and stills to give a short video show reel that parents can look back on and remember what their child was like and what their interests were at the time.
Jesse absolutely loves constructing Lego (way too much actually for my bank balance’s liking) and Minecraft. He also plays U10’s football for a local club and supports the Mighty Hawks! So for me, these were the important things I needed to record.
After you watch the video you may be wondering why I finished it in the way that I did. Well, even though Jesse wanted to do this for me as a Fathers Day present, I could tell that there were times during the shooting that he was getting slightly frustrated. However that is his personality. These are the little traits that children have, that as parents, we look back on and say, “Remember when he used to do this with his face/hands/eyes/whatever.” Which in turn triggers a whole bunch of other associated memories of what they were like at the time. That is why it is so important to capture these aspects before it is too late. In Jesse’s case I wanted to record it in a humorous way, hence the ending.
I am so happy we did this. And Jesse it’s the BEST Fathers Day present ever!!! Even better than the socks and jocks. 🙂
A Fathers Day Present of Significant Importance
Would you consider portraits of your husband with the kids as a possible option for a Fathers day present? It sure is different and it would definitely stand out as a Fathers Day present that would make an impact over a life time.
Due to no fault of their own, sometimes Dads miss out on spending quality time with their kids. They may be working long hours or work might require a lot of traveling and less family time. A photography session can be a great excuse to get together for some serious connection time. The portraits created of Dad with the kids are life long memories that he can treasure and not feel like he is missing out on their lives.
TIP:
You are probably reading this and Father’s Day has just past or is a few months away. You like the idea of a portrait session with Dad and the kids BUT this article will be the furthest thing on your mind when Father’s Day comes around again. Well, let me remind you.
Contact the studio with your details and in the message mention that you want to be reminded about the BEST Fathers Day present EVER! I promise to contact you weeks before the big day to get everything organised. Now that’s one less thing on your to do list!
Take care
Warren
Great work Warren! You’ve done a fantastic job capturing Jesse’s cheeky personality. Brought a tear to my eyes.
