The Victorian Dog Rescue Group (VicDRG) had their annual Christmas party last weekend and it was a privilege for me to head over to Caulfield Park to photograph and document the festivities.
The volunteers at the Victorian Dog Rescue Group do a fantastic job and spend a vast amount of time looking after the welfare of dogs (and cats) in desperate need of a life line.
Victorian Dog Rescue Group
Here is a blurb about them from their website: “Victorian Dog Rescue Group is a not for profit organisation whose purpose is to decrease the number of dogs killed in Victorian pounds each year. Nearly all these dogs could be rehomed and end up in pounds and shelters through no fault of their own. Their misfortune in many cases is they have not been valued by their family and they have not had returned to them the love and loyalty they have given.”
The Christmas function was a way to thank all the generous people who had fostered and/or adopted rescued dogs throughout the year. It turned out to be a wonderfully warm day with the park full of people enjoying the spring sunshine. President Trisha Taylor and other helpers on the day had set up sufficient shelter to accommodate everyone and their four legged companions. There was plenty of food on hand, with Geoff cooking up a BBQ storm, and refreshments. Merchandise was on sale to help raise more needed funds as well as raffle prizes.
As with any event like this, especially at this time of year, some people popped by for a quick hello and then had to leave but the majority stayed on until the end. The dogs had a great time socialising and then let off some excited energy with a group walk around the park. Well it was meant to be around the park until a few people decided to take a short cut and head back half way. It didn’t take long for the rest to follow 🙂 I think the wafting aroma of Geoff’s BBQ was too good to resist.
It was fantastic to talk to all the owners and hear their dog’s individual story and how they are now coping so well in their new homes. And to think these beautiful animals would not be on this earth if it wasn’t for organisations like Victorian Dog Rescue Group, their volunteers and the amazing people who open up their hearts to let these furry creatures in. Well done guys.
If you are thinking about getting a dog (or cat) I strongly encourage you to consider adopting a dog. Head over to the VicDRG website and see what dogs need a new home. They are always looking for volunteers too, so while your there you may want to sign up!
