Couple Photography

Today’s feature is a beauty and couple photography session I did with Tamara. Tamara had a really clear idea about what she wanted out of her session which made my job a lot easier.  Normally I would get this information from the pre-session consults we do with everyone we photograph.

Tamara wanted wall art for a particular spot in her bedroom and she was more than happy to go with black and white images, which if you haven’t noticed already is something we are doing more of. Tamara’s husband David was also present and the couple photography images of them together really tell a story of their love for one another.

Our beauty sessions usually entail a 1.5 hour hair and makeup make over from a qualified makeup artist. It was the first time I had worked with Veronica Toro from Posh Pouts Boutique. Tamara had a very relaxing time being pampered by Veronica while sipping champagne and listening to music.

The photography session itself was amazing. I normally start of with directing my subjects on how to pose which is very important with this style of beauty photography as it is all about that elegant pose and accentuating body parts like the neck, arms, hips and legs. My demonstrations always seem to cause laughter though as I get the subject to mirror my awkward attempts at being a super model. But Tamara was a natural and it wasn’t long before she was in the groove and moving more gracefully than me.

It is important to do a range of facial expressions but from the moment Tamara first smiled in front of the camera I knew that the majority of the images would be of her engaging the viewer with her amazing natural smile. The connections that David and Tamara shared when naturally posed also made my task so much easier when taking their couple photography images.

The session ended with some additional images taken of Tamara with some personal items that are very dear to her and David’s heart. This really highlights the importance of photography and capturing these significant memories because just like any form of investment their images will give back so much more to them emotionally over time.
